These vintage Christmas tins were once filled with Elkes biscuits.
The lids have children buying hot chestnuts - 20 for 1d - and there are lots of skaters in the background. The style is similar to the other Elkes tin in the shop and may be by the same artist. The sides show more skaters, ladies with mufflers, and men in top hats whizz about on the ice with a few falls happening! Two sides have "Elkes Xmas Assortment" and two state "Elkes Biscuits Ltd. Cardiff & Uttoxeter". There are two of these available, one from an earlier date than the other. The early tin has squared off corners and lovely rolled edges to the inside of the base. It dates from the early 1950's and is in very good condition. There are a few light scratches to the lid but the sides are very clean, as is the base and interior. The lid fits well. There are some very old tape residue marks to two lid edges - these may come off with a specialist cleaner. This tin has a coloured base with the brand stamped into it. The later tin has rounded corners and a silver base. The inside has some light tarnishing. The lid has light scratching across the picture, two sides are slightly faded and there is a very small indentation to one side. This is still an attractive tin, it just has more evidence of use than the earlier one.
Both tins measure 23.5cm x 22cm x 10cm so is perfect for holding a cake or Christmas biscuit assortment of your own!
There are lots more Christmas tins and vintage decorations available in the shop.
