This vintage French poster decorated the wall of a classroom sometime in the 1950's. It's by Romain Simon, a well-know illustrator of the 1950's and 60's, and shows a beautiful harbour scene.
In the foreground is a young girl in traditional dress complete with clogs. Behind her, in a small boat a matelot is rowing out to his ship. There are a variety of ships in the picture; a liner, a fishing boat a yacht and a frigate. Maybe this was the talking point for the children? In the background we can see a jetty and a liner.
The style of drawing is loose and colourful and this is a charming, and unusual picture. The teacher's name is written on the back.
It's in good, vintage condition with a few nibbles to the edges and a couple of small marks or scratches. Have a look at the pictures for details. It has a central fold from storage but this will flatten out once framed.
This vintage French print is big - it measures 93cm x 56cm - and will look fabulous framed up and on a wall.
