This poster dates from the early 1960's and was produced for the French Tourist Board. It's titled "De Frejus a Nice - L'autoroute de L'Esterel - Cote D'Azure".
1960's south of France might conjure up images of Brigitte Bardot in a bikini on the beach at St Tropez but, for the French Tourist Board of the time, it was the means of arrival that they regarded as their biggest selling point! This quirky poster shows the new dual-carriageway as it approaches the coast at Nice. It's actually a fabulous snapshot of the time combining the empty road, the mid-century style trucks and the shimmering Mediterranean in the distance. I love it!
This is not a reproduction but a rare mid-century survivor. It measures 64cm x 99cm. The body of the poster is in excellent condition for it's age. There are three small tears to the edges - two at the top and one on the left hand side. You could frame them out but they will flatten with framing.
Match it up with one of the other vintage French travel posters in the shop for some mid-century Parisienne chic.
