This French cotton shows Babar the Elephant, his wife Celeste and some of their friends and family. The background is blue and the characters are interspersed at different angles. It is marked with the L de Brunhof trademark.
The characters measure between about 12cm and 4cm in height and are clearly printed with bright colours. This is salvaged, vintage fabric with no selvedge but it's in excellent condition with no wear, fading, marks or holes. It measures 120cm across and is sold by the half metre. If you order more than one unit it will come as a continuous piece.
This fabric originates in France where Babar is an iconic figure in French children's stories. The character was created by Jean de Brunhoff in the 1930's and the books were first translated and brought to England in 1933.
