I have to confess that I am not a natural Smurf fan but this vintage Smurf cotton has completely charmed me. It's bright and colourful and full of fun.
The Smurfs first appeared in 1958 and research has revealed that there are over 100 characters and that the first female Smurf was called Smurfette. They were created by Peyo and this fabric is marked with his copyright and dated 1983.
The Smurfs that are shown on this cotton blend fabric are a mix of Smurfs and Smurfettes, they are clearly printed and appear in various scenes from their woodland village.
The characters measure between 10 and 16cm in height and the scenes are well spread across the white cotton. This fabric would make fabulous bags, cushions or even clothes but it will also divide well for patchwork and quilting projects. It's in good, vintage condition, with just a couple of small marks but nothing to really detract.
It measures 85cm across and has a vertical repeat of 59cm. It is sold by the half metre. Ordering more than one unit will bring a contuinuous piece - to a maximum of 1.5 metres.
