This unique quilt is handmade with a crazy patchwork technique using vintage embroidered linens and original vintage fabrics. The quilt is finished with machine embroidery and filled with a lightweight, recycled wadding.
The fabrics used date from between the 1940's and 1960's plus a few reclaimed pieces of plain cottons to add contrast. The hand embroidered panels are all vintage and have been saved from larger pieces that have been damaged over the years.
The central linen panel is a hand embroidered tablecloth featuring beautiful flowers in each corner and a central circular band. Inside this I have added another piece of embroidery - again saved from a larger piece.
Each piece of fabric is sewn to a calico backing to create the patchwork. The front piece is then sandwiched with the wadding and backing fabric before being stitched with a stem stitch pattern to combine all of the layers into one.
This patchwork quilt has been backed with a lovely. slubby pink linen which picks up the colours from the front and contrasts with the pale green stem stitch that joins the layers together. The edges are then trimmed and turned over to create the contrast binding to the front of the quilt.
This quilt measures 145cm x 125cm (approx 50" x 60"). It's a perfect size to use as a throw on a chair or sofa. It will hang over the edges of a single bed or sit on a double bed like an old fashioned eiderdown. It is designed to be used and loved and is machine washable.
