A quilt filled with stories, just waiting to be told...
Sold. I'm out looking for more but in the meantime head to the shop for more lovely things at www.handmadeandvintage.co.uk
This unique, children's storybook quilt is made with a crazy patchwork technique using vintage and retro fabrics, old embroidery, rag books, trims and lace. The quilt is finished with hand and machine embroidery and filled with a lightweight wadding that is made from recycled plastic bottles!
Each piece of fabric is sewn to a calico backing to create the patchwork. The fabrics are mixed with original, vintage cloth books, pieces of hand embroidered linen, oddments of ribbon and trim and machine embroidered pieces to help the story along.
This storybook quilt has been backed with a blue and white striped cotton, (that may have been left over from a pair of Obelix's trousers), and then over-stitched around each piece with stem stitch in a blue embroidery cotton.
Storybook quilts make lasting presents for new babies (and their patents!) but are also perfect gifts for any landmark occasion. They are one-off, keep forever quilts that will be cherished for ever. I call them storybook quilts because the mix of images, characters and words can be combined in any number of ways to make stories for bedtime...or anytime.
This quilt measures 125cm x 95cm. It will completely cover a cot bed and act as a quilt topper on a single bed. The padding makes it ideal for use on the floor for younger children. It is designed to be used and loved and is machine washable.
