This vintage tin teaching clock was made by Merit toys in 1960 and comes in it's original box along with a set of stand-up letters and numbers. It used to have plastic hands for children to move themselves when learning to tell the time. It has been transformed into a working clock with a battery mechanism and quartz movement.
The playset and illustrated clock can be dated to 1960 by the copyright mark on the box for J & L Randall.
The illustrations on the front of this vintage clock are charming and it would make a unique talking point in any room, however it does have all of the teaching markings for the second hand so a playroom or nursery would be very apt!
The clock can be wall hung or stood on a mantlepiece or shelf.
The box that it comes in has the original playset packaging and great illustrations on the cover and inside the lid. The set is missing one letter but the alphabet is complete, as are the numbers 1 to 10.
This is a charming set and rare to find in such good condition - a perfect vintage gift maybe?
The clock measures 14cm square. The box is approximately 31cm x 21cm. The clock and contents are all in excellent condition and the illustrations on the packaging are all in good order. There are some minor tears to the box and lid corners which will be mended with tape.
