This crazy patchwork quilt has been made with a mix of vintage and retro fabrics, embroidered linens, machine embroidery and vintage rag books. It's designed with a "storybook" theme and filled with a host of familiar characters and interesting pictures. The idea is that it can be used to tell stories either by an adult to a child or for a child to themselves.
It measures approximately 122m x 74cm which is a good size for a cot quilt, it sits, like an eiderdown on a standard single bed. It has a 100% recycled polyester filling so it's also useful for new babies as a play or floor quilt. It travels easily and is good in a car as an extra cosy layer. I design these quilts so that the characters and colours help this become a treasured posession over the years - well beyond infancy.
The fabrics on the front of the quilt are a mix of cottons, linens and cotton blends. Most are original vintage fabrics. These are sewn to a new, pre-shrunk calico backing and then backed with a new, red gingham.
Sandwiched between these layers is a soft, polyester batting made from 100% recycled plastic bottles - in fact it took about 3, one litre bottles to make this quilt lining! The layers are then anchored with machine embroidered stem stitch in co-ordinating colours.
These quilts can be personalised with pictures and/or words. They can be different sizes and made more boy, or girl, orientated. If you have a specific idea in mind or just want another like this one...Contact me for a chat.
