This pillow or cushion case came from a Sussex house clearance and I think it may be Edwardian. It is made of linen that has acquired that fine soft texture that comes with age and washing. The whole piece is hand sewn, including the seams and hemming. It would look very pretty on a bed or chair in a vintage themed home.
This is a square pillow case with a front 'flap' that lifts to reveal a top opening for the cushion or pillow. The front panel is edged in handmade cotton lace and the face has embroidered and cutwork flowers to three corners. The fourth corner has the initials MOBB embroidered in cream silk.
The whole is is excellent vintage condition, there are some small rust marks on the back and two tiny pin holes to the front. The lace appears to be intact and there is a discrete stamped laundry mark to the inside. There are no stains or other marks.
The dimensions are 48cm x 45cm, the lace edging is approximately 3cm wide.
